Uganda Innovation Week (UIW) is Uganda's largest annual gathering of innovators, entrepreneurs, investors, policymakers, ecosystem builders, corporates, development partners, academia, and the media.
Organised by Startup Uganda, the national association of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Support Organisations (ESOs), UIW serves as the country's flagship platform for collaboration, investment, policy dialogue, knowledge sharing, and innovation showcase.
Each edition brings together the people and organisations shaping Uganda's innovation ecosystem while creating opportunities for startups to connect with partners, customers, investors, and government.

A flagship moment the ecosystem has been missing
Uganda's innovation ecosystem has matured significantly in the last five years — more ESOs, more startups, more investors with Africa mandates, and more youth entering the entrepreneurial pipeline than at any point in the country's history. Yet there is no annual flagship moment that holds all of this up to the light, that makes the ecosystem visible, credible, and connected to global conversations. UIW 2026 is that moment.
Five days instead of three, each day with a distinct identity, energy, and target audience, so no two days feel the same and every participant has their moment
A dedicated Innovation Policy Forum with a written output — ecosystem positions on the Startup Act and digital economy priorities, published by Startup Uganda as an official post-UIW document

Five questions the ecosystem must answer
UIW 2026 is structured around five core themes that reflect both Uganda's specific context and the global innovation conversation. Every theme is anchored by a question, because depth begins with asking the right thing.
01Theme 01Building for Africa, From Uganda
Uganda is not a test market for ideas developed elsewhere. This theme centres home-grown innovation, local infrastructure, and what it means to build technology that solves real problems for real Ugandans — and then scales.
02Theme 02Money, Markets & the Future of Finance
Fintech is Uganda’s most active startup sector. But access to finance — for startups and for citizens — remains deeply unequal. This theme interrogates who gets funded, how capital moves, and where the real opportunities are.
03Theme 03Policy, Power & the Startup Act
Innovation does not happen in a regulatory vacuum. Uganda’s Startup Act and National Digital Economy Policy represent real opportunity but only if they are implemented, understood, and owned by the ecosystem. This theme makes the political situation personal.
04Theme 04Deep Tech, Climate & the Next Frontier
AgriTech, CleanTech, HealthTech, circular economy and AI are not just global buzzwords, they are Uganda’s most urgent innovation domains. This theme pushes the conversation past hype and into application, asking what it actually takes to build in hard sectors.
05Theme 05The Ecosystem Builders — ESOs, Talent & the Long Game
None of this happens without the people and organisations building the infrastructure of innovation. This theme is for and about the ecosystem itself, the incubators, accelerators, hubs, and educators who hold everything together.
